Pond And Water Feature Rebuild Story

Pond And Water Feature Rebuild Story Of What Happened & What To Consider When Planing Your Water Feature Or Pond Build Making Sure You Make The Right Decision From The Start

Garden Pond Overflow to water feature.

This was a vision our client conceived many years prior, yet they faced significant challenges in actualizing it. After formulating this concept, they resolved to take action and reached out to an individual who professed to possess the expertise necessary to transform this vision into reality.

On the other hand, I am confident that you can also imagine the difficulty we faced in persuading them that we are capable of making this work effectively. It was certainly not an easy task.

However, this was not the sole issue we encountered; the original deck was entirely decayed and, once more, constructed improperly. It lacked any treatment and resembled a diving board due to its excessive bounce, having no support and being built without any understanding of deck construction. The deck was so slick that it was nearly impossible to walk on, as they had utilized standard smooth timber.

At the base of this large water feature, they have installed a 20-liter bucket that has been halved, effectively creating a 10-liter reservoir. This decision alone should have indicated that none of the individuals involved understood the situation. With only half of a 20-liter drum, the pond will not even start to overflow, let alone fill an 18-meter long water feature and complete its cycle to return water once more.

This task was quite challenging, and I could only empathize with our customer. However, the only solution we could propose was to disassemble everything and begin anew. There was considerable discussion regarding the liner, but we cannot utilize it. Firstly, how can we ascertain whether it remains intact, especially if it has sustained any damage from the movement of large rocks in and out and over it? We cannot afford to take any risks; the project is too significant.

You can somewhat envision the challenges we faced in persuading them that there is only one method to execute this job; otherwise, we would not be able to progress with the project. At present, I was reluctant to undertake the work due to the distance we needed to cover daily to perform this job, but the primary issue was not the travel itself, rather the traffic we encountered on each journey.

Ultimately, we secured the project and thoroughly eliminated all existing elements, commencing anew by reconstructing the deck and incorporating a suitable bottom reservoir. This reservoir is designed to retain water until the entire cycle can resume, ensuring that water is replenished before it is depleted. This is yet another minor detail that individuals lacking experience may not be aware of.

When contemplating the addition or construction of a water feature, I strongly recommend conducting thorough research prior to accepting any quotations. Examine previous projects that the contractor has completed, review customer feedback, and recognize that lower prices do not necessarily equate to better quality. Individuals with the requisite experience and expertise are not inexpensive, as they are aware of the considerable effort involved in such projects. They possess genuine knowledge of the challenges and intricacies involved, unlike those who may believe they can undertake the task without understanding the true difficulty and the precautions that must be taken.
