5 Years Only

This is a standard pressure-treated timber sleeper pond, now five years old. The treatment used on most sleepers is primarily designed to protect against insects that live in, feed on, or breed within the wood. While this helps prevent insect damage, it does not fully protect the timber from long-term moisture exposure.

In many sleeper pond builds, water can work its way behind the liner from below and gradually creep up the timber. Once moisture becomes trapped between the liner and the wood, it remains constantly damp with little opportunity to dry out. Over time, this continuous exposure to moisture causes the timber to deteriorate from within — even if it still appears solid on the outside.

Eventually, the structure will begin to fail and require rebuilding.

At LifeTime Ponds, our focus is always on longevity. We don’t build ponds for quick turnaround projects — we build them to last. That’s why we take additional precautions in our construction process. We use a high-quality protective varnish system to seal and protect the timber properly. Every sleeper receives two full coats on all sides before installation, ensuring deep protection. Once installed, a final coat is applied to seal every joint and connection point, adding an extra layer of defence against moisture ingress.

Our goal is simple — to build ponds that stand the test of time and perform for years to come.
